Israeli Foreign Minister Agrees with this Blog
Today, while meeting with UN Secretary-General Mr. Kofi Annan, Israeli FM Ms. Tzipi Livni expressed her hope for peace between Israel and Lebanon.
I'm not sure whether this is related to the letter that Ofer sent her in this matter, but I'd like to believe that the letter had a slight influence in the matter.

A short while afterwards, Lebanon's prime minister Siniora declared that Lebanon will be the last country to sign a peace agreement with Israel contradicting previous statements heard by him recently.

I believe there are political reasons for both above statements. In this blog we try to push towards peace between our two countries. I don't expect our countries' leaders to make announcements at this early stage, but I expect them to drive towards realization of this vision.

Israel sees Lebanon as an Economic competitor.

Israel refuses to lift its blockade because it feels it has an advantage militarily to 'All' of Lebanon (not just Hizbullah) to weaken its economy that has been striving for the past decade. Israel sees it as a competitor, and so instead of competing intellectually, it has done so by force with the blockade that has lasted for 8 weeks straight now.

A Shame, unfair, unjust,and unlawful!

Israel is a country that is hardly to be trusted. Even the Christians in Lebanon are having second thoughts.

Yozef,

I'm sorry, but you know this is nonsense.

Israel refused for a long time to remove the blockade because Lebanon refused to do her part in 1701: stop the weapon supplies to Hezbollah, disarm Hezbollah, and provide information about the Israeli soldiers.

It is very easy to put the blame on Israel, but had Lebanon been responsible enough years ago and disarmed Hezbollah, or atleast posted the Lebanese army on the Israeli border, this wouldn't have happened in the first place!

If you seek guilty, seek it in Lebanon. If you seek action and peace, let's seek it together wherever possible!

Well it is similarly easy to blame Hezbollah, in which I am Not denying. One thing is that Israel Does see Lebanon as a regional competitor (not militarily).

As for the Hezbollah re-arming excuse, it is strongly beleived worldwide that the happenings of such a scenario is very very slim, to almost impossible especially with all the security. If you read carefully, and would be wise to post a link on this blog, that Resoltuion 1701 Does Not ask the disarmement of Hezbollah, what it asks is the Arms of Hezbollah to be removed from the south of the Litani river. As for the disarmement, the Lebanese government is more enthusiastic about that physically occuring than Israel.
The reason the Israeli Government gives such excuse to its people, is purely for an internal problem inside Israel. Israel till today cannot confirm any objective it has achieved through this war, except mass murderer; that will surely tend to damage Israels image (if not already so - noticible in AIPAC) worldwide and may be convicted by Amnesty international.

Peace with Israel still circulates amoung the society. Though Lebanese are wondering if such a deal will be fair. After such a war, some are having doubts, but nevertheless the possibility still lies.

Do you know any Israelis Yozef? Do you actually know anything about her society or politics?
Israel wants and has always wanted nothing but peace on her borders and would like friendship with Lebanon whom she sees as a natural ally.

Competitor??? Don't make me laugh. That's paranoia at it's most extreme.

Let's look at an interesting pattern shall we.

Quiet on the northern border from Israel to Lebanon while you weren't shooting at us in the early years. You allow terrorists to train and attack us from your lands and we retaliated. Simple as that. Yees we supported a Maronite state for a while cause we thought it would be the best way to protect ourselves and get an ally. We are interested in nothing but our safety.

You know, I went on the Future Movement site's threads and started a thread in favour of a peace deal with Lebanon. I got many responses with at least half favourable. I got banned and my thread deleted. It said reason "I don't like it". When it will be lifted "Never".

Your country is spewing propaganda about our opinions and making you think certain things about us cause it fits their situation.

Stop slandering us. Israelis may be dumb and have a poor memory and may have elected the worst government in history but in all of the people I have met, even those who are against the Palis in the most extreme, ALL speak in favour of peace with Lebanon and not in order to dominate her.

Furthermore, among all of those who believe that resettlement of Palis in their host countries is good, Lebanon is seen as a separate case in which doing so would be a bad thing.

It's a shame that some high posts in the Lebanese Government are occupied by people who do not seek God's PEACE on earth, Forgiveness, and Unity.
